GIRL “DICTATOR” IN CHINA

A girl who was once a dancer on the Loudon stage is helping in the government of Southern China.

She is Sylvia Chen, the daughter of Eugene Chen, the chief figure in the Communist Administration at Hankow and Canton. Letters received from China speak of the work which Sylvia Chen is doing in her father’s office. Miss Sylvia Chen is really a British subject, because she was born in Trinidad. when her father was practising as a solicitor under bis real name of K. Bernard Aebam. Her mother was of negro origin, and Mi ss Chen shows the color in her complexion.

'File income of Air K. Bernard A chain, solicitor, of Trinidad, was fairly substantial. and Sylvia was sent to school in London. She was trained as a dancer when in her teens, and while still a child she appeared in a dancing troupe before royalty. She returned to Trinidad when her education here was completed, and she took part there in several stage entertainments for charity. She is an excellent dancer, and was chosen as the principal for a dancing revue, called “The Bowl of Roses,” which was produced at the Empire Theatre, Trinidad, in 1925. Sylvia Acham, now Miss Chen, of China, was a captain in a company of Cir! Guides when living in Trinidad. Air Bernard Acham, who had left Trinidad and returned to Canton, the home of Ids Chinese ancestors, flic Chon family, sent, for his children to join him about a year ago. His wife bad died several rears before.

Sylvia was accompanied to China by her younger sister, Jnlande, and her brother. Percy who had previously been ‘called” as a barrister in Trinidad.

Aliss Sylvia, since settling in China has been at. the right hand of her father in his Government work. She lias developed unexpected ability in office organisation. One brother of Air Chen still remains in Trinidad as a clerk in the RegistrarConoral’s department.
