At present the district is experiencing a touch of very severe winter- About 4 inches of snow is lying on the flats, with the result that we have had from 14 to 25 degrees of frost. As there is plenty of ice, skating and curling is carried on with enthusiasm, even until a late hour in the moonlight. The local football team has had a very successful season so far, winning all their matches in the first round. They have twice defended the Blakely Cup, beating Hyde 12 to nil, and Fatearoa by 2l to 6, The local hockey team has also done well, its record being four wins and two losses. The Tennis Club held a bazaar here to raise funds for the new courts, and. it proved an undoubted success. About £SO was the nett profit, and every credit is due to th£ Bazaar Committee. It is with regret that we have to report the departure from the district of (Mr B. Dickinson, school teacher, who is to take up new duties at Green Island school on Ist July. He has been a live wire in all sports and the social life of the place- Through his teaching and hard work the school children gave a concert last Friday that surprised everybody, even the parents, and they must have been a pride to their teacher.
