A RIVER OF DIAMONDS.
CAPETOWN, March 10. Discovery of flawless diamonds worth £IOO,OOO at Alexander Bay, in N.W. Gape Province, near the month of the Orange River, is regarded Try experts as the most sensational find for years. The stones .arc rounded like pebbles, suggesting that after a great earth convulsion they had been washed down by the Orange River, but this view'is not generally accepted. The stones averaged Icarats, but one of 81 carats is worth £7OOO. It is understood that the Diamond Syndicate has the option on the stones. Hr Cornell, the explorer, who was killed in a motor accident in London, had sought here for diamonds, says the Central News. He thought large deposits of diamonds must have been washed down to the month of the Orange from Griijini haul, but he did not dig deep"enough.
