LISTER'S FIGHT TO HEAL MANKIND.
Lister, the genius, did more for mankind than all the surgeons of all the ages since the days of Hippocrates. He < ‘lived to see his work and teaching result in the saving of more lives than all the military heroes of all the ages have destroyed.” These were the tributes paid _to Lord Lister last night by Sir St. Clair Thomson, past president of the Royal Society of Medicine, at a gathering of famous medical men, including some from, distant countries, in connection with the centenary i'o Lister’s birth. Sir St. Clair was speaking at the headquarters of the Royal Society of Medicine in Wimpole street, W. Queen Victoria, he said, once requested Lord Lister to take action for the suppression of experiments on animals. A 1 though he held a Court appointment, he had to decline an invitation he could not conscientiously accept.
