FOSSILS OF MASTODONS.

Two new mastodons and a new glyptodont, the fossil hones of which were found in rocks of .Plioccut ago in Arizona, are described in a report just issued by the Geological Suvvej, department of the interior. Several years ago numerous vertebrate fossils were discovered in San Pedro Valley, near Benson, Ariz., by Kirk Bryan, of the Survey. Later .1. W. Gid'lcy, of the United States Museum, co-operated with Mr Bryan in making a large collection of these

The skeleton of one of the .Mastodons (Stegomnst odon arizonae) has been mounted after the restoration of (he missing parts, and is on exhibit in National Museum at Washington. The total length of the mounted skeleton is about fourteen feet. A mount has also been made of the glyptodon (glyptotharinin arizonae) by using parts of three individuals. Its huge carapace, resembling a turtle shell, Is over five feet Jong.
