Mr bred Waddell, accompanpanied by his wile and children spent a few days holidays in Ciyde. He has been in bad heal th lately has not been able to ride for some time. However the few days in the Sunny Gen tral improved Fred considerably.

Mr Caughlcy, director general of education, Mr Wallace (chairman of the Education Board) and Air Rogers (architect) visited this district last week. • • • •

On Friday evening last the members of S. AlichaeJs Church Guild held a Surprise Party at the residence of Mr and Mrs E.W. Attfield at Clyde. The excuse for the enjoyable evening was the approaching marriage of Miss Attfield to Mr T- Farrell. Advantage was taken of the opportunity to make a presentation (a handsome silver cake basket), Mrs Woods (the Guild president) doing the honours and extending the best wishes for Aliss Attfields future happiness. The recipient suitably acknowledged the gift*

At a recent meeting of the Presbytery of Central Otago held at Ranfurly a. call from Morce (N. 8. W.) to the Rev, 11. Bloomfield was considered. Two letters from the clerk of the movce Presbytery were reading setting out the opportunities open to .Mr Bloomfield in the event of the call being placed in bis hands. The stipend offered was £3OO per annum with one month’s annual holiday, a, furnished manse, a car and its upkeep. Although a very scattered field, some stations being GO miles from Morce the charge was one where a minister of Mr Bloomfield's gifts could do great work. The call was not well signed, but there were circumstances to account for that that in most of the names subscribed belonged to Morce itself, the charge being to extensive to get more signatures in the time. Also there was the fact that many of the people were away for their summer vacation which Was usually the hot mouths of the year. A commissioner from Lauder (Mr Alexander) voiced the general regret of tin* parish at the impending departure of their minister. They keenly felt the loss but they Would place no obstacle in his way if lie saw lit to accept the call. Mr Bloomfield on being asked 1o state his view reviewed situation and impressed upon the. Presbytery that the call was unsought and that he believed Moree offered a wider sphere of usefulness especially in work among the voting and that theretoie he ought, to accept, the call if placed in iiis hands. The Presbytery after having been led in prayer by the Be' A. Don duly considered the position and the call was sustained and the pastoral tie was dissolved as from the date ot the Morce induction.
