CENTRAL OTAGO A & P ASSN.

Thirthieth Annual Show Absolutely ideal weather was experienced for the annual show of the above association which was held in the show grounds at Omakau last Wednesday. This factor was probably responsible to a great extent for the record attendance, but it is evident that the interest in the affairs of the association is steadily increasing Although this is true, it cannot, however be said that the high standard of the exhibits of the last show was maintained on this occasion. With the possible exception of dairy produce and sundries — both very fine and creditable sections competition was not as keen as it should have been. In sheep for instance tiiere were practically only two exhibitors (Mr R. Jopp and Mr A- Secular) but fortunately the quality was good- Mr Jopp exhibited a very fine lot of merinos but had practically no opposition, while a feature of the sheep was the fine fats shown by Mr Secular. The latter gentleman win the Silver Cup presented by the Association for most points in sheep, Mr Jopp losing through the rule governing the Cup that where there is only one owner exhibiting in a class no points be allowed. In draught horses again the number of entries showed a decline but the exhibits of both Messrs G- Harvey and C- White were very fine indeed- In light horses there was a decided falling off. Everything considered however, the show must be considered a success. Yet the fact remains that the district is capable of making a much larger and better exhibit of stock and produce which is second to none in the Dominion: The judges were— Messrs R. K. Smith (sheep and light horses) Mr Carruthers(cattle and draught horses) and Mrs Carruthers (produce and sundries)- There were several dissatisfied exhibitors, but, of course, it would be a matter of sheer impossibility for the judges to please everybody. The officials worked well and harmoniously, and are to be complimented for their thoughtful and appreciated action of giving complimentary tickets and conveyance to passengers on the up train who would otherwise have had rather a weary wait during the train’s delayResults:
