WHY FORD PAYS GOOD WAGES.
Henry Ford didn't find it necessarv to go to the Labor Board for a wage cut. writes a correspondent to Labor. He hasn't found it necessary to put into effecst the schedules handed down by the Hoard at Hie behest of other road*. The reason why Kord can pay decent wages, much higher than other roads, is that Kord paid the Detroit. Toledo, and fronton what it was worth and is not forced to earn dividends on millions of watered capital. In that respect he has a big advantage oyer of her roads. A half-century of mismanagement, graft. waste. and stock-watering has so inflated capital that it is impossible to pay a guaranteed return to capital and at the same time pay a living wage io workers. I'or the time being capital has the call on Government, and the workers must sacrifice. The remedy is to force the water out of the railroads, and that won't- be done until the workers and the public take charge of their government.
