"Co-partnership is a, sheet anchor in business in times of stress and strain." Tin's was the text on which Lord Lcverhulme bung an important speech to the working staffs of Lever Brothers. Ltd., when he announced particulars of a scheme approved by himself and his co-directors, the object of which is to carry unemployment and life insurance benefits. The scheme provides for State employment allowances to be made up to hall-pay, and for a life insurance policy of £IOO, which may be increased up to £IOOO in the ease of the staff and up to £2OOO for foremen and! forewomen. "The scheme," said Lord Lcverhulmc, "are not something instead ol' wages, but an addition to the standard full trade union rate of wages. "Employees can appeal against any such grading down to an independent advisory tribunal, and the final court of appeal will be the Chairman of \jGver Brothers, Ltd. The benefits are entirely voluntary, and no contribution will be expected from any employee."
