BOWLING.

The Clyde Club was fortunate in getting splendid weather for its opening on Saturday afternoon. There was a big crowd present, visitors being present from all the district Clubs, while they were even present from as far away as Kaitangata, an old friend in Mr A- J- Maiden (with two companions) coming up specially. A pleasing feature was the presence of such large numbers of the fair sex. Prior to the commencement of play, President Phil Miller welcomed the visitors, and called upon Mrs Miller to roll the first bowl, and this was done amidst applause. Mr Miller also presented Mr WSutherland, the local singles champion, with certificate and trophy won by iiim. The green was in splendid order, and the game President v Vice-president was much enjoyed by all. The whole surroundings, the bowling green, croquet lawn and tennis courts were generally admired, the visitors congratulating the Club on having such a fine property. A bountiful afternoon tea was provided, and the afternoon was generally voted a great success. Cromwell's official opening takes place on Saturday, Nov. 4th, and we are asked to extend a cordial invitation to all bowlers to participate-
