An up-to-date version of the oldtime Gretna Green wedding, in which the irate parent chased the runaway pair in an aeroplane instead of a coach, was staged on the Canadian border lately. Tlie runaway pair were Miss I,eta Nelson, aged 17. and Mr William May. aged l! 0. both members of prominent Philadelphia families. They attended a dance at the Thousand Islands Yacht Club, on the St. Lawrence, and there decided on a runaway marriage. The couple had crossed the river into Canada before Air Nelson heard of the elopement. No boat was available, so he chartered an aeroplane and started! in pursuit. As frequently happened with the pursuing Gretna Green coach, Ihe aeroplane broke down, and the young couple continued -their journey without interruption. Air Nelson knew that they were making for Montreal. The host he could do was to send a telegram to a lawyer in Montreal, who intercepted the couple and persuaded them to delay the wedding until the arrival of the bride’s parents.
