Camile Asp, a French soldier, fell in love with Mile. Laure Galle, a Belgian nurse, during the war, and they planned to be married, but she remained in Lille after the Germans enforced, and later was arrested as a spy for sheltering two French officers, and condemned to death. The memory of the Caveil trouble induced the Germans, however, to commute big sentences. Asp, following the war, went to Uruguay as a commercial representative for a French firm, and thought the nurse was dead. He learned later that shi- was alive, and started a correspondence, which resulted in an agreement to meet in Buenos Avres to be married. Then it was found' that they must lie residents in the Argentine three months before marriage would be possible under the law, and so he hurried to New York, intending to marry her immediately on her arrival from Europe. More red tape was encountered when it was found that the Belgian quota of immigrants had been, exceeded, and Mile. Galle was held at Ellis Island. Now Asp is hurrying about seeking aid from the Belgian, French and Uruguayan Consuls, who will push a special inquiry and ask permission from the Government that she bo allowed to marry, thus becoming a French citizen. The girl, inasmuch as the French quota has not been exhausted', may then be admitted. All records were broken on a Florida (U.S.A.) racecourse recently, when a racing motor-car reached the amazing speed of over 180 miles an hour. The car was driven by a 250 horsepower aluminium hydroplane motor, and its body was stream-lined. The most wonderful thing about the car was that the body was only 20 inches wide, givr ing just enough room for the driver. Somebody has been asking, "Can monkeys open oysters?" There is no record of their doing so, but the Maeacus cynomolgus, a monkey of Burma, uses a stone to smash the hinge-end of the oyster's shell, then pulls out the contents with its fingers. •j
