A .soman's 10,000 miles journey in search of her missing husband was described to an English Magistrate lately. The woman said her husband' came to England from Australia during the war and had never returned, although she knew he was alive. .She had applied, she said 1 , to the authorities in Australia, hut they could not help her, saying that she "should not have let him leave Australian waters." On being told,' this she had set out for England, and had traced her husband 1 to jvensal-nsc. London. He had refused, however, to return to Australia with her. A summons for desertion was granted. Facing a serious increase in the spread of tuberculosis, which recently was reported to be three times as prevalent as in 101-5. the Prussian Government has adopted drastic combative measures. Individual responsibility in reporting cases of infection to the police plays a large part in the new legislation. Hereafter every case of tuberculosis of the lungs or larynx must be reported to the official local doctor within eight days of its inception, and every death from the disease must be reported within twenty-four hours. Bacteriologiacl investigating stations are required to report all instances of positive identification of germs to the police, and the premises involved must be disinfected before they are occupied. Householders as well as doctors are responsible for reporting new victims, and violators of the law may he fined 1500 marks. A little dinner for two in Moscow now costs thirty million roubles, equal to £3,172.000 at pre-war values. The convicts of American prisons have been voting on prohibition, and, of 134.000 men, only 900 voted for the repeal of tho law.
