The Dunstan Times "Fiat justitia ruat coelum." MONDAY, Oct. 2nd, 1922. LOCAL AND GENERAL.

Gloriously fine weather continued last week. On two or three occasions there were indications of a thunderstorm but nothing came of it. On Monday last Clyde was blessed with a nice shower (32 points) but unfortunately it was purely local, not a drop falling at either Alexandra or Cromwell. A clear case of virtue rewarded- What! There is every promise of ail" other abundant fruit crop this season, if th edelightful display of bloom in the orchards can be taken as a criterion- There is always a danger of frost, however, and it is never safe to try and estimate the crop until well into the month of November. Farming Notes this week will be found on page eight, while much interesting reading will be found on pages two and seven. Hull's Pictures at Clyde on Thursday night will show 'Pathe Gazette' and a comedy "Hand to Mouth" also "The Leopard Woman" which has been picturised by J. Parker Read Jr. In the title role of this picture Louise Glaum is starred with the virile and powerful House Peters playing opposite her. The story is set in the locale of the African Congo with all its wild lavishness of scenery and beauty, its negro characters, its wild animals and its torrtd heat. Breeders of thoroughbreds will be glad to learn that the services of a tip-top sire will be at their disposal this season, Messrs Pringle and Roberts having acquired that good horse Balboa. Particulars in our advt columns. When the question of confirming the striking of a rate in connection with the erection of Workmens Homes came before the Vincent County Council meeting last week, Cr Scoular, ever watchful of the interests of his Riding (Matakanui) was on his feet like a flash to urge that the matter be held over pending the completion of the Matakanui Irrigation schemeHis reason for this step was that both the County Solicitor and the advances to Settlers Department had advised that only £5,000 could be borrowed in any one year. The Courjcii had pledged itself to complete the scheme and could not now back down. Cr Scoular's eloquence gained the day, and the erection of the houses is now indefinitely hung up- The money necessaay may, however, be raised through other channels. At last week's meeting of the Vincent County Council chairman Middleton gave notice to move at the next meeting that all vehicles plying for hire in the county be licensedTenders are invited for the privileges in connection with the Central Otago A. and P. Association's Annual Show. Four Chimes, the great pacer, and the sire of some of the fastest horses in. the Dominion, is standing at Alexandra and travelling the surrounding districts this season. Mr VV. J. P. M'Culloch. of Dunedin is at present taking an extended tour of the Central districts, in the new model light Overland, accompanied by Mr J. B Cade, Overland car representative. Mr M'Culloch has taken up the Otago agency for this light 4 cylinder car, It has a very neat appearance, has all the advantages of the larger types of cars, yet has not the objectionable heavy weight. A Borch D. W. 4 magneto is mounted on top of the engine, the Carburetter is also very high. Mr M'Culloch claims that this car will ford deeper rivers than any car at present on the market. A big feature of its comfortable riding is due to three point suspension springs. The high radiator and straight-line bonnet and cowl, the slanting rainvision windscreen, the one-man hood, flood-crowned mudguards are details that contribute to the Overland's attractive appearance, Its electric starting and lighting system, complete instrument board, detachable Duratex upholstery and storm curtains which open with the doors are details of the car's distinctive conveniences, while an additional attraction is its cheapness— Messrs John Haig and Co., Omakau have been appointed Central agents lor the Overland. We were married in haste in the morning, We were sorry and sad by noon, But it all came right at seven that ' night When we started our honeymoon, Tho' Matilda is somewhat officious, Her intentions are good and pure, _ And her treatment for colds is delicious IV Woods' Great Peppermint Cwh
