A Newport dock laborer. John Price". son of n workman, has won an _Ox lord' University diploma in economics and political science. He has the distinction of being the youngest student who has ever sat for this diploma, being only 20 vears' old. At the Uolt street Council School Price won a scholarship to Newport High School for boys at the age of 13. On completion of his term of three years h<< started work as a dock laborer, but continued bis studies, and in October 1920 ho won a scholarsnip through the National Amalgamated Laborers' Union, of which bo was a member, to Buskin College. So satisfied were the college authorities with his first year's progress that they renewed the scholarship. On Whit Monday he sat for the Oxford diploma, and won it. Price is an all-round athlete, and has been stroke in Buskin College boat .since he went there. His father is past president of the Newport Trades Council.
