In the manufacture oi' very many articles small stampings or pieces of pressed metal are used in enormous quantities. Frequently, it is the custom for manufacturers who require such stampings to purchase them from firms specially equipped for their production. In other cases, however, where they are merely accessory to some machine or appliance, it is very convenient to be able to make them on the spot as required. For this purpose a. liritish firm Ikis produced a small power press of a very simple type and at a low cost. It can be bolted down to a bench and used for pressing or stamping strips of metal, which are usually supplied in coils. One size of machine will give punchings up to 2J inches in diameter; and it has a p\)sVs of six tons. A smaller size deals with Ik. inch punchings, and has a push of about two tons. In both cases the output is about one gross of pieces per minute. The power consumption of this machine is so small as to be practically negligible, and owing to the small number of wearing parts its output is consistently accurate.
