.Sir Tristram Eve told a story at Mr Churchill's expense in presiding at a Carlton Hotel (London) dinner to mark the wind-up of the Forage Committee of the War Office. On one occasion, lie said, the committee received a letter signed “Winston Churchill," asking what they meant hy commandeering his hay. In the answer it was pointed out that the hay was taken under an army order signed hy the Secretary for War. He might mention that at that time Mr Winston Churchill held that office. There was no reply.
