The annual ball of the Matakanui Football Club is to be held in the Peace Hall on Sept 13th. We are informed that the canvassers for subscriptions for the Earnscleugh Hall Building Fund met with a liberal response in Clyde last week. A meeting of the management committee of the Vincent Jockey club is to be held at Lauder at 2 o'clock on Friday afternoon. The programme committee also meets at the same time and placeTnere was a change in the weather on Friday night last, when there was a heavy fall of the high country. This materially improves the prospects for the season's supply of water. Mr Dixon S. M-, on taking his seat at the Court at Cromwell, on Wednesday last was welcomed by Mr Brodrick, on behalf of the Bar, and by Const- Bradley for the Police. Mr Dixon returned thanks and reciprocated the kindly sentiments expressed, remarking that he hoped and believed that the cordial relations previously existing would continue. The annual meeting of the Co-operative Fruitgrowers is to be held at Roxburgh on Sept28th. The business includes the election of directors, in place of Messrs S. A- Stevens, E- Pinder and J. R- Webb, who are, however, eligible for re-election. Several recommendations from a meeting of shareholders held at Roxburgh will be considered. These include a suggestion to have at least two selling-agents in Wellington, Christchurch and Invercargill. . Mr D*#on S.M- took a lenient view of the cases brought by the Mines Dept- against water-right holders for failing to make returns, the maximum fine being five shillings. Inspector Whitley did not press for heavy fines, intimating that the cases were merely brought as a warning.
