In Winchester Cathedral there is ;. delightfully humorous carving on one nf the misereres in the choir. The voluble verger, whose scat it now is. showit with transparent, relish. The carving represents a man's head, and nine years ago it wa« discovered, that this carving is so cleverly done that when a penknife is inserted the tongue can be made to wag freely.
