1 « The Hockey match Tuapcka v. Vincent was played at Roxburgh on Saturday and resulted in a win for Vincent by 2 goals to nil. The weather which looked threatening all morning, sroko shortly after play started and continued right throughout the game. The ground was very'rough and this, combined with the rain, made good hockey absolutely impossible. On the day's play there was very little between the (wo teams, but the winners passed better, which certainly was responsible for both goals. From the bully-off plav was taken to Tuapeka territory, but by good defensive play by their tracks the ball was kept out of their circle. Play for sometime after this was 1 taken from one end of (he held 10 the other, but neither side could finish by netting a goal. From a free hit just outside the circle Tuapeka looked dangerous, the play remaining in the circle for some minutes, bui Vincent managed to clear. For the last ten minutes of the' first spell Vincent bad all the best of it attacking strongly ,ii! the time and Tuapeka had to give several penalty corners in quick succession, 1c looked as if Tuapeka were going to weather the attack, but just on the call of time a nice piece of pley by F. Bringans, a quick pass to the centre by H. Keddell to M. Stevens saw the latter quickly torn the ball between the posts. Half time was called immediately afterwards. On resuming, play was at once taken to Vincent circle where Tuapeka tried in vain to score, good play by N Olsen and I. Scott goalkeeper preventing a scoce. For quite Tuapeka 20 mins Tuapeka attacked strongly, but their shooting at goal was not crisp enough any shots being quickly stopped by I. Scott who was playing well. After some give and take play, the ball was taken to the other end of the field where for some time it remained. A good centre by L. Hannay to D. Clark who passed to H. Keddell saw the latter score Vincent's second goal by a smart clean .shot. From the bully, play was again taken intoTuapekas quarters but the Vincent half backs who were playing rather close up, let the ball through to the Tuapeka forwards who kept waiting well dewn the field. A determined rush was then made for the Vincent circle, but the ball when shot passed a few inches outside the post. Several times 4 or 5 of the Tuapeka forwards broke clean away in this way through not being watched. Shortly after this H. Keddell obtained possession of the ball about half-way, beat both full backs wha attacked her together and then made for the circle, The Tuapeka goalkeeper ran out to the edge *f the circle to meet her but Hilda had no difficulty in passing her. Sho than had a clear run for goal but with th® ball less than a foot from the Hue she slipped and foil right away f. am the ball, thus losing a sure goal alter a nice piece of play. From this until the end of the game, play was very even although when the game ended Tuapeka was attacking strongly making great efforts to score. The Hockey Tournament at Alexandra on Saturday promises to be a jjijf *ucce«s, .Clyde has entered three yearns.
