Hull’s Pictures at Clyde, on Thursday night will show besides several fine supporting pictures, a splendid drama — “Go and Get It” is dedicated to newspaper reporters, so it is right that the hero is a reporter— and such a reporter! Pat O’Malley in the role jumps from one aeroplane to another, and performs all sorts of death-defying stunts in the pursuit of news- The story he is to ‘go and get’ about a hideous mystery that has shocked into terrific awe the inhabitants of a big city. He gets the story assisted by charming Agnes Ayres and that frecklefaced young imp, Wesley Barry, but the getting of it involves the greatest series of hair-raising thrillsMrs Smith, of Earnsdeugh, Clyde, recently secured from Messrs Booth Macdonald and Coa Carlyle sprayer- The machine is to hand, and a trial of the engine and pump proved entirely satisfactory- Wc understand that a public trial will be given by the Co’s, agent (Mr Hart) at an early date, due notice of which will be given in these columnsThe public meeting held on Wednesday last, called to recognise the splendid record of the locai ladies hockey club, decided to entertain them at a social in the Town Hall Clyde, on the 16th inst- A strong committee has been formed, and arrangements have been made to see that an enjoyable evening is assured. From enquiries made we learn that the concert to be held at Omakau on nth inst , and which is advertised in another column! is above the average and a departure from the usual-run of local entertainments The staging accommodation has been increased to enable the various marches and dances to be shown to advantage- Both piano and violin will accompany the various items, and the settings arranged for the different numbers will be quite new as far as local concerts are concerned. The electric- lighting effects will add materially to the whole programme, and altogether a good nights amusement is promised. The charges arc quite reasonable, and we wish the party and the Vincent Sports Club every success iu t'hcir undertaking. Under the Fruit-preserving Industry Act, 1913. empowering the Government to make advances to establish cool - stores for fruit or in other ways encourage the development of fruitgrowing, advances totalling .£65,155 have been made but only £2OO was loaned last year. Three mortgages have failed to maintain payments of the principal sums owing by them, amounting to .£16,795While in Hobart on their return journey to South Africa the Springbok athletes were shown through a jam factory and zinc works, a reference to which is made by D. A. Leathern (a member of the team) in a letter to a friend in Wellington. The jam factory was specially interesting. “The machinery in some of these places,” he slates, “is really wonderful. and the only machinery 1 saw during the tour which beats that of the jam factory was in the woollen mills at Dunedin.’’ Messrs D. McKay, Ltd , Invercargill, announce that they are fully determined to charge for fruit cases during the coining season. This will be welcome news to growers,- who fully appreciate the trouble there has been over the question with the retailers in Invercargill. The stand taken by this well-known firm, will doubtless ensure them a generous support from growers. The Co-operative Fruitgrowers ot Otago, Ltd., has received the following information from the National Mortgage and Agency Co. Ltd., concerning the sales of apples in London per s, s. There’s sorrow in the cup for they Who alcohol their wits away; But naught but joy can ever flow From one clear chalice that we know When shattered nerves and pain prevail, Its aid is never known to fail, There’s gladness in the cup, be sure, Which gives us Woods’ Peppermiut Cure.
