SUDDEN DEATH AT IDA VALLEY.
An Old-age-pensioner, named Thomas Patrick McMahon was found dead in his hut at Herman Hill, Ida Valley, on the 7th hist. The deceased lived alone, and he was last seen alive by Mr Wm. Dunn (the only person that visited him) on the Ist inst. Dunn saw smoke coming from the chimney of deceased’s hut on the 4th. but when he visited him at 3 p.m. on the 7th he found deceased lying dead in his hut.
An inquest was held at Ida Valley on the Bth inst., before Mr Robert Rutherford J.P., and the following jury : Messrs John McKnight (foreman), Isbister, McAdie, Penglase and McNaughton. Evidence was given by William Dunn, Ernest Jones, and Dr Nicolls, the latter certifying that deceased died from syncope. The jury brought in a -verdict in accordance with the medical evidence. The deceased was buried in the Omakau Cemetery on Sunday, yth inst., the Rev. Father O’Dea officiating.
