OBITUARY.

Mr T. MEE Jr, (From Our Becks Correspondent)

Owing to my absence from the district this obituary notice is somewhat belated in its appearance, nevertheless, as showing the esteem and respect in which the deceased was held I am sending it on. After a painful illness of two week s duration the late Mr Tom Mee Jr., who had just attained his majority, passed away at the residence of his parents at Becks on Sunday, 4th ult.' For two years he had been in Dunedin apprenticed as a carpenter but on the acquisition by his father of Mrs Fisher’s hotel property it was decided that he should relinquish the trade, and hence his return to Becks. Hehad qnly been home a fortnight when he had a paralytic seizure in the throat, and soon after developed diptheria. Despite all that good nursing and medical skill could do for him he passed away as above, Throughout the neighbourhood his genial and winning manner made him quite a favourite, especially among the young. He was not only an erstwhile member of our local football team, but also during his residence in Dunedin he was also a popular and energetic member of the Dunedin Club’s second fifteen. In the absence of Mr Knight, on the 6th ult.. the funeral services at the house and at the grave were impressively conducted by the Rev. J. McCosh Smith. The large funeral cortege which followed the remains of the deceased to the cemetery at Omakau testified to the respect and esteem in which he was held, and also to the deep sympathy with the Mee family in their sad bereavement.
