A correspondent, signing himself " Backswoodian," having asked what are the relative numbers of Irish and English in the world, it occurred to the ' Australasian' that the best thing to do was to obtain through MrFenton, the Government Statist, estimates of the relative numbers of the two peoples in Australia and the United States. In the United Kingdom the proportion of Eußlishmeu to Irishmen is between 5 and 6 to 1. Mr Fenton, the Government Statist, has supplied the following interesting tables : AUSTRALASIA. Birthplace.
