The order of the day will be : On Tuesday, a children's picnic in the Arbor Ground ; football match, Upper Clutha v. St. Batbans ; display of fireworks, (if obtainable) and bonfires, etc, in the evening. On Wednesday night, a ball will bo held. This is as large a programme as we can run. so Her Majesty will have to be content whether or no.

(from our own correspondent.) Between 20 and 30 gentlemen attended the public meeting calh;<| by jjhe Mayor to J outsider the suitable celebration locally of he Diamond Jubilee. The meeting was an enthusiastic one, and all were evidently eager to do their quota. The Mayor, Mr H, Baillie, presided, and ia stating the tyjsJneßS sajd that while it was unnecessary for him to en]arge.on the Subject, fce was open to receive any suggestions. Though the Council had convened the meeting they had nothing *« J lDg f orwar d. Mr rJurten remarked chat he had con suited the Acts at all likely to bear on the subject, and he had found that section 3 of the Municipal Corporations Act, ISB6, would a,Jlow. the Council to subsidise £ for £ any reasonable amount subscribed by the public. Mr Haines said he had no elaborate scheme to bring forward, but he thought they ought to afford amusement to the children, and also make the jubilee of some moment to them, so that they might remember the occasion. He proposed to celebrate the jubilee by a procession, to be followed by a display of fireworks, after which three bonfires would be lighted oh prominent points of the surrounding hills. He would also add to his motion that the Borough Council be requested to subsidise any amount collected up to what that body thought they were justified in doing. Mr Haines called attention to the appeal Dr Newell, of the Tuapeka Hospital, was making on behalf of the destitute patients. Mr Haines's motions were unanimously carried, and he was elected secretary and treasurer off the committees elected. At a committee meeting on Thursday night, several reports were handed in, anu it.-was resolved to spend about Lls. A dance is to follow the fireworks, music being very kindly supplied by the Biass Band.
