St. Bathans.

(FROM OUR OWN OORBISPONDBNT.).

The annual meeting of the St. Baihans Athletic Club took place in Thurlow's Hotel, on Monday evening, Jane 3th, for the purpose of adopting the balance eheet. The secretary (Mr Co>an) reported that the finanoeß of the Club were in a muoh more aatislactory state than they had been for a number of years, there being a credit! balance of £ll 8s 7d. It was resolved, that the balance sheet be left in the hands of the. treasurer. . ."_-. It in unfortunate that the annual spbrta of both Ophir and St, Bathans fall on the same date, and I think steps should be taken by the two clubs, whereby this difficulty might be got over amicably. Both clubs claim priority, bnt whethor the annual •ports were first held on Si Patrick's Day here, or whether first.at Ophir, is onh a matter of oonjecture, aa in neither place were records kept by the secretary (if there were one). The easiest way I can see out of the difficulty is this. <Jive the club secretaries at the present time power through their committees to decide it, as captains of cricket clubs, Ac, do by ' heads or tails,' If the coin show a head then the winner claims St. Patrick's Day, as the date of sports for his district. The loner's choice, being Hobson's, he can select any subsequent date, Both clubs would then have the presence of a muoh larger number of competitors, and the benefit to the finances of each would be very marked.
