FOOTBALL NOTES.

By Drop-Kick. Players from Alexandra rolled up at the Clyde ground in big force on Saturday last and were met by a good number of the local players. A practice match endued with the result of a one-sided victory for the Reds (Clyde) by 15 points to nil. As the score testifies, the Reds had much the best of the game all through, though the Blues’ forwards showed superiority in the packed scrums, but the complete lack of combination of forwards and backs alike proved disastrous. Tries were secured by W. Holt, 11. Iluestoa, W. Stevens (1 each) Laidlaw (3), A. E. Wong Gye (2). Laidlaw succeeded in placing two goals—one oi them from a mark, and Stevens kicked a goal from a rather difficult angle. Laidlaw played with any amount of dash at three-quarter, and I congratulate the dub on having secured his services for future matches, as he will fill a rather marked deficiency in the team. The drawing for the Cromwell Ladies’ Challenge Trophy has resulted thus: Cromwell against Alexandra, at Cromwell; Bannockburn against Roxburgh, at Bannockburn; Clyde against Matakanui, at Matakanui. Dates for matches will be fixed at an early date. A Wanaka-Hawea team will probably visit Cromwell shortly. A return match between Cromwell and Bannockburn for the 27th is on the tapis. The match between Matakanui and Alexandra, to be played at the latter place to-morrow, should prove interesting. I hear that the Clyde team are anxious to try conclusions with Cromwell, aid should the Gromwellites prove agreeable a match is likely to be arranged for an early date next moatt ©n the Clyde ground. The Roxburgh team intend to Dunedin this season in order to try conclusions with some of the metropolitan junior teams, and thus obtain a better knowledge of the game, with the view of vanquishing all tho surrounding club* next season.
