- c (from OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) DUNEDIN, June IS. At Education Board to-day, the resignations of W. J. Strong (Bannockburn) and Margaret Campbell (Wanaka) were accepted. The ban Francisco mail arrived at Auckland early this morning. Two tobacconists were fined yesterday at Christchurch for Sunday trading. Two delegates from the hospital trustees will l)e sent to Wellington to interview the Government a grant towards the new hospital in Dunedin. A conference of New Zealand licensed victuallers will be held next week at Wellington to discusss matters connected with the trade. The Caversham licensing committee yesterday granted the three adjourned applications, but notified one that it would be refused next year.

A disastrous fire occurred at Sydney this morning by which M’Leau and Rigg’s large ironmongers premises were completely destroyed. besides two other large premises. At the Sydney general election yesterday 26 Ministerialists. 9 Opposition, and 18 Independents were returned. The labor conference met at Wellington to-day, but nothing as yet has been done. THE LAND BOARD. At Land Board yesterday, Perpetmal lease was granted to Robert Brown, Lower Wanaka ; J. Sloan was allowed to complete purchase of deferred payment section, Tiger Hill. It was decided to forfeit the following leases for non-payment of rent: Jas. Ncvill, Poolburn ; Enphemia Brown, Gimmerbum ; Win. Johnson, Gimmerbum. The following lessees were allowed timeas requested by them ; Danial Moran, Lauder; Chas. Aston, Tiger Hill. Consideration of the following lessees' cases were deferred : Elizabeth Alexander, Lauder: Thomas Rhodes, Ranklehurn ; Mary Jane Sloan Tiger Hill. Would be allowed to surrender if arrears were paid in a month, failing which they would forfeit without further notice. LONDON, Jit.ve 17. Russian spies have boon arrested on the Hungarian frontier.
