As to morrow is the clay appointed for the nomination of Candidates for the County Council it may not be out of place for ns once again to remind the Electors that, having now the principles of local self government in their own hands, it all depends' upon themselves whether the movement will prove a success or a failure. Electors must bear in mind that the prejudiced Provincial party, notwithstanding that Provincialism is dead as a New Zealand institution, are still amongst the living, and doing all they can to place difficulties in the way of the successful realisation of the Countv system, which as a matter of course they desire to see not succeed. It is this class of people that the electors will have to beware of, and who under the guise of friendship, or solicitude for the good of the public, will endeavor to creep into the Council for the purpose of working out, their evil machinations. The next, class to keep out arc those who are going in for the loaves and fishes, and with those, profit and pay is the only object of their ambition. Elector’s must bear in mind that prodigality of expenditure will not bo a public virtue in the case of the County system, It must be borne in mind by electors that while visionary members of the Council mav dance and caper at the pros : pact of their grand schemes, it is they the electors that must pay the piper, and the more property they possesr

tho mors they will hove to contribute, and this is a matter well worthy' the consideration of our farming popula- , tion. What we 4'equire -of tho' Council is great economy in management—salaries paid in proportion to the amount of work done, and no more cats kept thanwillcatch mice. Electors must bear particularly in mind that the whole success of the new system mainly depends upon its economical management. Wo do not desire to say anything'either for or against the aspirants for office, because we believe their qualities are thox-oughly well un- 1 ■derstood ; all we desire to say is, select tho best man.
