CORPORATION OF ALEXANDRA.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Council was held in .the Council Chambers ou Wednesday evening last, the 29th ult. Present : James Samson, Esq., (Mayor) ami Councillors Finlay, Beresford, anil Theyers-. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Outward correspondence. —To T. L. Shepherd, Esq., M.H.E., accompanying memorial for extension of the railway to Roxburgh ; and to Inspector Moore, asking him to confirm appointment of Constable Jones as Inspector of Nuisances. Inward correspondence.—From Mr J. C. Chappie, referring to water supply to the Town; the camping of carriers within the Town boundary, and the goat nuisance. From Cameron and Hansen, applying for owe t) build a pig-stye o ntiguous to their slaughter-yard. From Mr Fache, together with copy of memorial, re application of Messrs Strode and Fraser for 010 acres on Cairn Muir. The correspondence as read was received and adopted. Resolved, That the Public Works Committee take such steps as to secure a better supply of water to the Town. It was casually remarked that if the lessees of the Corporation water race were fined in terms of their agreement, 15s per day, for not turning on to the Town the proper quantity of water, a great deal of trouble might be saved. Resolved, That a general muster of goats be made, and that all unregistered goats be killed During the discussion on this subject, it was said there were fully 390 goats roaming at large about the municipality, and of which only about twenty were registered. Leave was granted Cameron and Hansen to build a pig-stye, the site being subject to the approval of the Public Works Committee. The Town Clerk now read copy of tho memorial re Messrs Strode and Fraser’s application. He said that he had been called upon by the Mayor of Clyde, who preferred the request, that no steps bo taken in the matter, until he further heard from the Clyde Council. After a long discussion it was resolved, That this Council do memorialise his Honor the Superintendent to refuse to confirm the grant to Messrs Strode and Fraser, in accordance with Section 10 of the Regulations relating to Agricultural Leases on tho Goldfields. Several matters relative to the repairing of streets, &c., having been attended to, and accounts amounting to Ll2 9s having been passed for payment, tho meeting closed with a vota.of thanks to tho Chair.
