It will be rememberci that at the last session of the Provincial Council, as a means of stimulating inventions of Gold Saving Apparatus the sum of L 250 was voted, to be offered as a bonus for the invention of such an apparatus, and through the public press plans and proposals were invited. A number of plans were accordingly sent to the Government, and yesterday, the 23rd iust., in the Atliememn, Clyde, was fixed upon to decide as to which (if any) was entitled to the bonus. The gentlemen appointed to undertake the onerous duty were Mr Ewing, (chairman of the Otago Central Mining Association) ; and Messrs Crombie, of Bannockburn ; G. B. Douglas, of Bendigo ; Mr Shannon, of Naseby ; Mr Greenbank, of Drybrea l ; Mr Purton, of St Bathans ; Mr M. Kctt, of Alexandra. With tho exception of two last, whose ahsened was explained, thewholemet, and accompanied by D. M‘Kellar, Esq, Goldfields Secretary ; and W. L. Simpson, Esq., Warden, proceeded to their work. Mr Simpson having boon appointed Chairman ; and Mr Ewing, Secretary; Mr M'Kellar opened the proceedings by explaining the vote, and then laid on the table the plans received as follows; from Mr Win. Green, of Pomahaka, a working model also accompanied this ; from Alexander Mills, Hampden ; from Charles Reisler, Queenstown ; from A. Keene, Naseby ; and J. H. Doidger, Grahamstown. Each plan having been discussed, and high encomiums passed on some for the highly finished manner they were prepared, the Commission came to the unanimous conclusion,— “ That none of the plans came within tho conditions, ami consequently not entitled to the bonus, ” a sort of rider being added that most of the principles submitted were in use. .
