TOWN COUNCIL, CLYDE.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Council took place at the Council Chambers, en Tuesday Dec. llthat7o'clock. Present J. D. Feraud, Major, and Councillors Cambridge, M' Conochie Goodwin, and Ryan. pgThe minutes of last and special nnetirgi were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was read and approved of, as also the inward c »rres ondence including the following—From Mr Commissioner St. John Brannignn, sanctioning the appointment of Sergt. Anlrew Thompson, Inspectcr of Nuisances for the Municipality of Clyde, vice Sergt. M'Clusky resumed. From Messrs. Fergusson and Mitchell, allowing carriage on Corporation Seal, and enclosing remit* ance ten shillings and sixpence. • From Mr. Jas. Holt, asking permission to erect a stable in the rear of Bank of New South Wales' premises. From Mr W, L. Bailey, late Town-Clerk, protesting against the legality of the proceeding of the Council at a meetin!; held on the oth inst. Proposed by Councillor Goodwin and seconded bv Councillor Ryan—"That Mr James Holt be allowed to erect stables, subject to the approval of the Public Works' Committee." Carried. Proposed by J. D. Feraud (Mayor), and seconded by Councillor Ryan—"That the Council apply at once to Government for the immediate appointment of an Inspector of Weigh's and Measures for the Dunstan District." Carried. The Council resolved itself into a Conpnittee his Worship in the Chair, recommending Mr L. Carter be appointed Town-Clerk, and on resuming business Proposed by Councillor M'Connochie and seconded by Councilldr Cambridge—"That Mr L. Carter bo appointed Town-Clerk for the Incorporate Town of Clyde, pro tern, according to the Otago Municipal Ordinance Amendment Ordinance, 1860, and that Mr L. Carter give the security approved by the Council, and that the salary be at the rate of L7O per annum, and subject to a similar agreement that existed between the late Town-Clerk, Mr. W. L. Bailey, and the Counci'." Carried. Tenders were opened and read for alterations and inprovements on Council Chambers ; also, for repairing culverts and forming stfe'ets. The tender of Mr Charles Heuston for (he sum o F L 34 10s. was accepted for repairs to Council C jambers Mr John Holloway's tender for the sum of LlO 10s was accepted for repairing streets. Proposed by Councillor Cambridge and seconded by Councillor M'Connochie—"That the Mayor be requested tJ communicate with Mr S. Isaacs, member for the Provincial Council, and Mr D. M'Pherson, member for Manuherikia, and the poldnelds' member Mr George Brodie, requesting them to do all in their power during the present session of the Provincial Council, towards the establishment of a Supreme Court r at Clyde." Carried. The usual vote concluded the meeting.
