The Council met in the School-room on Wednesday the 28th ultimo. The Mayor in the Chair, Councillors Marsh, Hetherington and Whetter were present. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed a letter was read from the Town Council of Lawrence, respecting the application for a grant of land for commonage. A letter was read from Mr W. Grant tenderinehis resignation as Auditor. Ordered to stand over till next meeting of Council. The Keport of the Public Works Committee was to the effect that the Reserve in Melmare Street be leveled for the site of the Town-Hall. Moved by Councillor Whetter—" That the report be received." Seconded by Councillor Hetherington and x Proposed by Councillor Whetter—" That tenders bo called for leveling tho Reserve in Melmare Street." , Seconded by Councillor Hetherington and carried,

Moved by Councillor Marsli—" That the Public Works' Committee report upon tlie footpath, from Mr Lawrence's corner to, the corner of Sligo Street, and the filling in of the shaft opposite the Court House." Upon the motion of Councillor Hetherington, seconded by Councillor Marsh—"The tenders for leveling the Reserve for the Council Chambers were taken into consideration. The tender of Messrs Barr and Guthrie was ultimately accepted for the sum of Ll2, being the lowest tender but one, viz., Anderson Lll ltis who declined to undertake the contract. Moved by Councillor Whetter :—"That theresignation of Mr Grant, as one of the Auditors, be accepted." Seconded by Councillor Hetherington and carried. The Council then adjourned.
