Among the many additions to our local industries is a biscuit manufactory at Alexandra. At the premises of the proprietor, Mr. P. Calder, we were shown a large variety of plain, fancy, and wine biscuits, neatly packed in tin cases, and ready for delivery to customers. The goods are got np quite equal to any received from Melbourne or DuDedin, > that Mr. Calder will receive from the inhabitants of this district the patronage he deserves. In the Warden's Court, Clyde, on N eduesdag last, Edward Jones, of Fraser's river, appeared to answer an information by Thomas M'Ktlvey and party, for damaging and otherwise interfering with a head water-race, their property, causing the stoppage of complainants' works, whereby they sustained a loss to the extent of £lO. The case occupied a considerable time in hearing, the evidence being rather conflicting. The facts were, however, proved, but it. being the first case of the kind the Warden only inflicted a fine of Is. uud 275. costs, defendant to pay council's fee, amounting to two guineas. In a succeeding case the same complainants were charged by John Young and others with 'allowing an exccss"of water to flow down their race, contrary to section 5 of Regulation 15 of the Goldfields Ru'es and Regulations, whereby complainants suffered damages, to the amount of £2O. A large amount of evidence was heard on both sides. The case was ultimately dismissed. The line of telegraph is once again out of order. A break occurred yesterday, shortly after noon, somewhere between Tuapeka and Tokomairiro. The shareholders d in the All England Eleven [Mining held a special meeting on Wednesday evening, at the Port Phillip Hotel. Mr. AV. Thcyers, of Alexandra, occupied'the chair. The busi 7 ness was-to Directors to borrow moneyjbr the purpose of improving their pumping machinery. A vote was unanimously carried, That the Directors be empowered to borrow the sum of £SO upon the security of the property of the company. It will be seen by our advertising columns that the Government are about commencing in earnest the removal of the Nevis Bluff. The works are under'the direction of Mr. W. Greenlaw, the District Road Engineer, and from what we know of that gentleman's energy in pushing forward similar undertakings, there is no doubt but that the road between the Dunstan and the Lake District will in a few short months be opened. A Civil f ervice and Income-tax Commission has at last been appointed. The duties of the former will be to inquire generally into the clerical strength and efficiency of the several departments of the public service, and to report improvements in the organisation of the same by way of consolidation or otherwise. The second portion of the duties of the Commission, relating to the raising of an in. come-tax, will, we imagine be attended with much difficulty, especially on the goldlie" ds. Great improvements may certainly be made in the Civil Service, and if the Commission will cause some of the money that is being fritted away in salaries to be expended in the making of roads and opening up the country they will deserve well at the hands of the mining community. The sailing of the first of the Panama and New Zealand Company's line of steamers from Wellington for Panama has been postponed till the 23rd inst. The alteration will, however, only affect the departure of the June steamer. In future the day of sailing will be the 6th of every month.

Messrs. Holt and Dakin are pushing briskly a-head with their new shaft. The pumping machinery will shortly be in position, aud a few weeks hence will in all probability see Clyde once more supplied with fuel, not only at a cheap rate, bvt of superior" quality.
