LATE SHIPPING.

The Union Oo.'s new steamer Kotuku arrived from Auckland at 11 o'clock this morning, and an attempt will be made to bring her inside on the 5 o'clock tide this afternoon. f The sea proved too rough for the diver to make a descent for the purpose of examining the s.s. Tomoaoa to ascertain the extent of the damage sustained by her through bumping on the bottom of Giaborne harbor. It was therefore decided to proceed at once with the discharge of the cargo consigned to Napier, and the Tomoana will then go on to Wellington for examination. Captain Ogilvie, of the ship Aberfoyle, was assaulted by Melbourne roughs, and robbed of his watch, on July 12th. He caught hold of a man who was standing close to him at the time, and handed him over to the police. The watch was not found on the accused man, but the Police Magistrate thought the evidence sufficently strong to commit him for trial at the Criminal Court to be held on the 15th inst. The captain was bound over in the sum of £100 to appear at the Court and give evidence agakibt the man, and J on stating that he would have to sactifio* the £100 as he could not detain the vessel, the Police Magistrate said that he wouid have to prepare his warrant so as to compel the captain to wait. Captain Ogilvie, however, quietly made his final 'arrangements for departure, and before the police knew that the ship had lifted her anchor she was away to sea on July 13th.
