A Bullet in the Brain.

An Australian's Experience.

The Daily Neics publishes the story of an Australian trooper who has a bullet permanently buried in hia brain. He is perfectly well, perfectly happy, but the medicos won't let him stir out of bed. The writer says :— " I saw in one of the hospitals an Australian volunteer who seemed in very good health and spirits, and apparently very well content with the prospect of carrying a bullet in his brain to his grave. The doctors had come to the conclusion that it was embedded too deep in his head to be got at, and that it would have to remain there. He gave me a curious account of the circumstances under which he had been brought home from the war and lodged in that hospital. It was a remarkable story of muddle and confusion, but the most remarkable thin? he had to tell was that hia wound was quite healed, and that barring, the story of unmarketable lead in his upper garret he had for a month past been as well as he ever was in his life, or ever expected to be, but not for love or money could he get his discharge from the hospital. This dirt not seem to be due to any doubt in the medical mind as to his real eoudition. So far as he could make out it was due simply and solely to red tape and officialism. He didn't care whether they sent him back to the w»r or shipped him home to Australia, or let him ship himself. All he wanted was to get discharged, and that he could not do. It was insisted he should occupy the hospital bed and live on the fat of the land, though there was nothing whatever the matter with him."
