Wellington, This day,

In reporting to the Commander of the New Zealand forces under date May 20fh, ten miles north of Kroonstad, Lieutenant-Colonel Robin has forwarded a copy of a telegram he received from Major-General lan Hamilton as follows : —" So sorry I had no time to come over and say good-bye to you and the tine fellows you command. I know I shall miss jou the next fight we have. Good luck to you all." Lieutenant-Colonel Robin adds that the First New Zealand Contingent served from Bloemfontein three weeks with Major-General Hamilton, on the Winburg column via Thabanchu, and on the advance to Kroonstad. They had nine fights in thirteen days and two more before reaching Kroonstad, thirteen tights in all. On April 15th by order they rejoined the lirst Brigade. MajorGeneral Hamilton sent this telegram : — "it is admitted that the column via Winberg had the longest route and the most fighting."
