The mining party led by Mr E. L. Jack, late Government Geologist of Queensland, and who have been for some time exploring the inland province of Sze-chuan, were safe at Mienchoufa, in the Sze-chuan province, on the 11th inst.
The following telegram from Brisbane was published in the ram of June 25:
—" Some speculation has been indulged in concerning the whereabouts of the late Government geologist, Mr R. L. Jack, who, while in England at the Earls' Court Exhibition, accepted a post under a syndicate holding mining properties in China. Mr Jack, since his departure, has corresponded with his successor in Queensland, Mr Rands, but no communication has been received from him for some time. Mr Jack was accompanied by his son and a young man named Morris, who was at the Sydney University with him. They made their way up the Yangtse-Kiang River, and when last heard of were at Chiugtu, in the province of Sze-chuan, at which place, according to recent cable messages, the Governor has suppressed an insurrection! At the time ot writing Mr Jack intended to leave for the mountains, presumably those on the western border of the province."
