Weka arrived last n'ght from Oisborne, and is expected to leave tonight for Mahia. The s.s. Fanny is loading timber, aDd leaves to-night for Gisborne. The Union Co.'s s.s. omax>ere left at 9.30 p.m. yesterday for Auckland v*a Gisborne and East Coast" bays. The s.s. Himitangi left the Spit at 5 p.m. yesterday for Greymouth direct. The Union Co.'s s.s. Flora is due tomorrow from Wellingtsn, and leaves the breakwater at 5 p.m. for Gisborne and Auckland. The barquentine Sir John Franklin arxive.t this moraine from Newcastle, and Anchored in the bay. She brings a load *>f coal for the Napier Gas Company. The Union Company are advised from Sydney that the sailing of the Waikare for New Zealand and the Manapouri for _?iji will be delayed, owing to the difficulty of getting bunker coal. The company are advi>-ed that there is a block at Newcastle and that the accumulation of .steamers and sailers theie is unprecedented. The barque Timaru, recently purchased by Captain H. Munro and others for the interC'-lonial trade, has sailed from London for Napier and Lyttelton. The Timaru was formerly the S»n Diego, and is a comparatively new vessel. In consequence of rep sated reports of broken shafts received during the past three years, the Committee of Lloyd's have adopted new rules in tegard to ihe dimensions and manufacture of propel'or shafts. One reads : " All shafts must be made of good material, and are to be examined when rough turned, and when finished. In the case of .'crew shafts, scrap steel is not to be used.
