Dunedin, Last night. Lieutenant Canavan supplies tho following list of members of the New Zealand Contingents in hospital when he left Capetown-: — FIRST CONTINGENT. At Wynberg : Corporal Orhell, Waikomaiti; Troopers Mitchell, Manaia ; Newdick, Auckland; Strange, Auckland ; Hurford, Canterbury ; Fahey, Auckland. SECOND CONTINGENT. At Maitland : Sergeant Findlay, Temuka ; Corporal Overton, Christchurch ; Troopers Jackson, Dunedin; King, Timaru ; Wood, Wellington; A. V. Valentine ; Wilson, Ophir. At Woodstock: Sergeant Hadfield, Marioo. THIRD CONTINGENT. Sergeant Hawkins, Marton ; Trooper Yon Blaremberg, Wanganui. ft ' FOURTH CONTINGENT. Trooper Davis, Auckland. FIFTH CONTINGENT. Trooper Meredith. Sergeant Hadfield and Trooper Strange were to proceed to England. The others will probably return here by the Karamea or the succeeding steamer. Wellington, Last night. The Premier had received a cable from Major Cradock stating that the following New Zealanders have died of enteric fever :—Private P. P. Brown, Timaru ; _'. Broom, Wellington ; T. M. Freeman, Waimate. No particulars are given. Christchurch, Last night. The Major J. Ross mentioned in Mr Pilcher's telegram from Capetown is probably J. Ross, who was captain of one ot the companies ot the Tnird Contingent, but resigned his commission on the voyage to Durban. On arrival in South Africa he joined Roberts's Horse -as a private, and was afterwards promoted to the rank of sergeaut-major for gallant conduct in the field. Dunedin, Last night. The whole of the invalided soldiers went on to Wellington by the Papanui. Colonel Webb telegraphed to Lieutenant I Liudsayand Trooper W. A. Saunders that I they could land and proceed home by j train, but presumably they did not have I time to transfer their kits.
