Mr Justice Barnes, sitting in the English Admiralty Court recendy, had before him a claim by the owners, master, and crew of the Aberdeen liner Aberdeen, for services rendered to the Gulf of Henoa. On September 21st last, while on a voyage from London to the Australian ports with a general cargo, the Gu f of Genoa broke her tail shaft, and became unmanageable. She drifted and -sailed until the 25th, when the Aberdeen, bound from Capetown to Melbourne, fell in with her, took her in tow, and in four ~ days and a half towed her about 430 ■miles to Algoa Bay. The total value of the salving property was £165,000, and -that of the salved £120,000. His lordship, in delivering.judgment, referred to the enormous expense incurred by shipowners owing to the breaking of propellor shafts and the loss of propellors. He had ascertained that in the two years TB9B-9 the Court had awarded £135,405 for the salvage of steamers which had sustained that class of damage, as compared with £95,630 awarded for services rendered necessary from other causes. In the present case he awarded ,the plaintiffs £7OO0 —£5800 i o the owners, £4OO to the master, ana £BOO to the crew.
