At nine o'clock this morning the thermometer readings at the places mentioned were as follows : — Russell 55, Auckland 54, Gisborne 48, Spit 52, Wunganui 49, Wellington 57, Christchurch 46, Dunedin 44, Invercargill 44, Bluff 41. The reading in Napier at 2 p.m. was 68 in the shade.

Mr Fellow, at present at the Te Aute "Hotel, will shortly take possession of the Commercial Hotel at Waipawa.

In the school football match between the Port District and Napier High Schools played on the Recreation Ground this morning, the Port school won by 8 points to 3.

The committee of the Wanderer's B cycle Club met last night and transacted a lot of routine club business. Arraneements wf re completed for a second social to be held in th? Foresters' Hail nej-t Tuesday evening, and the secretary reported that, the sale of tickets indicated that the dance would prove a big success.

' Mr Peter Scrimegour, for many years at Waipukurau, has arranged to take over the Te Aute Hotel, with the refreshment booths at the railway station.
