Notice to Mariners.

Wellington, Last night,

It is notified that after 9th August a light will be exhibited from sunset to sunrise from the lighthouse which has been erected on Ea.it Island, near East Cape. The position and characteristics are as follows :—

Site of the light is in latitude 37 degrees 4 minutes south and longitude 178 degrees 36 minutes east, as measured from the Admiralty chart. The tower is constructed of cast iron, and the total height from bottom of base to top of lantern is 69 feet. It is painted white, and the light will be 362 feet above the level of the sea at high water. It is a dioptric revolving white light, of the second order, showing a white flash at intervals of ten seconds. It will be'visible seaward over an arc of 280 degrees of the horizon, or as tar round as the land will allow, and in ordinary weather it will be seen 22 nautical miles from the deck of a vessel 15 feet above the sea level.
