London, July 19
The Standard states that during the fighting at Tientsin the Chinese detained a number of Russian artillery instructors, and compelled them to work the guns, hence the accuracy of the Chinese fire. One of the instructors ultimately escaped to the Bnssian lines. The Diily Mail reports that European and American officers say that Europeans were serving the Chinese guns on the walls of the native city.
