HASTINGS.

[own oobbbspondbnt.]

The oommittee of "Pinafore" have decided to give another performance on Tuesday next in Hastings. On that night Hastings will be full of both town and country reaidents returning from the breakwater festivities, to whom a visit to " Pinafore " will be au enjoyable finale. His Excellenoy the Governor will be the goeat of Mr J. N. Wi'liama next week at Frimley There was a little excitement for a time at the railway crossing yesterday, When Mr J. Oullen was driving a friend in his trap The horse, who had been having a spell, thoughb hia vacation was not long enough, and played "old gooseberry" for some time, going through all aorta of circus performances whioh would have been auiuaing enough if a smash was not imminent, However, our Borough Councillor had " been there" before, and managing to alight, soon quieted the horee. Councillor Cullen is too valuable to the borough to be lost just yet, and both himself and the borough are to be congratulated upon the escape. The lantern of one of the borough lamps haa been completely smashed, frame and all. From its appearanoe it would aeem to have been wilfully done, by throwing some hsavy miasile at it. If it was an accident, it will be more honorable and alao safer to own up and pay the damage. Ihe following team haa been eeleoted to represent the Haatings Rifles in the next competition for the Coleman shield, to be fired for on the 9th November :—Captain Lewis, Lieut. Ware, Color-Sergeant Ross, Sergeants fclhanley and Northe, Privates Collinge, Humphreys, Tong, Pilches, Hastinga, Foreman, S. Northe, Thompson, G. Joll, Bpencer, Johnaon, and Bugler Heatley.
