THE BANK BUSINESS.
After the agreement for the purchase of ihe Colonial Bmk had been laid on the table, Mr Mitohelson asked the Premier whether it was intended to reft-r it to the Public iiocounts or other committee, or if the ltoinbdra required information would the Government answer their queationa ? Mr Seddon replied that he waa acquainted with the minuteat details, and would be pleased to give any information to members. He saw no necessity for referring it to a oommittae.
Mr Geo Hutchison asked if the Premier would lay upon the table a list of the shareholders in the Colonial Bank ?
Mr Seddon replied that no reason had been given for thia. If Mr Hutchison would plaoe the queation upon the order paper he would answer it. Tha member for Fatea said he thought there waa an obvious reason for it, and if the Premier would re-conaider his apparent ref asal to give the return, it would be conducive to an early settlement of this question.
The Premier said that when the Bank Act was before Parliament no suoh return was asked for. A return of the shareholders of the Bank of New Zealand might aa well be asked for. He knew of no reason for it.
