The efieot of the recent conference of fire insurance companies in Melbourne has been to largely increase the rates of premiums here As the town has an excellent water servioe by the pumping of powerful engines, the placing of the town in the third olass caused indignation, as the outoome of whioh a meeting of citizens to-night resolved as follows:—"In view of the exoeeive rates now levied by insurance oompanies for this town and the large general increase of rates in the colony, and the excessive proportion of premiums expended by companies in other ways than in paying losses it is desirable that come other mode of fire insurance be adopted, and that municipalities should be empowered to insnre their own ratepayers against fire; also to give and receive aid to and from other municipalities in doing so, and that a Manicipal Fire Insurance League be formed to give efieot to this resolution, and take steps to secure through Parliament the necessary authority for establishing municipal insurance." Thin mine is situated in the best known part of Waicekauri, outside the " Waitekauri Special," but on the same line of reef, and is BUtrounded by properties that have either already been taken up by English Syndicates or are nov/ forwarded to Home capitalists for their approval Thera ia a good battery site at the junction ot two creeks, on the ground, with a plentiful supply of water for general mining purposes. There are also two batteries working within a quarter of a mile of thia property. No oalla are anticipated to be required in this Company, as it starts with c, balance of £2000 or thereabouts, will ba ample to thoroughly open up the property, and to gut Kolwindsor and Sophia reefs which are known to r\m through the New Waitekauri, and from which good cold has been obtained. Splendid loose gold has also been obtained in a email gully on the north« west part of the grouud, which is in a direot line with the Kolwindsor lode. A glance at the plan-* shows the wellknown names of the Waitekauri Gold joining Company, whose shares ere now quoted at 95b per sorip; thg "Vt'aitebauriJubilee, and JubiloeExtended; thelolanthe,Mi&ado, Pearl, and iillen Companies, of iUnglish syndicates; and the Grace Darling Company, whioh is also now being floated in London—bo that the New Waitekauri ia in very heart of the best gold-produoing nroperties in that famous disiriot, arid asper report must be lookpd upon as one of the moat valuable properties there, as. it carries parallel lodes to the famous Waitekauri, from which 4130,000 of bullion was won under the old system of treatment; and also to the well-known Sophia, Kolwindsor, and Gordon properties. There is no doubt but with dry crushing and cyanide treatment the reefs will give much better results than formerly, as most of the reefs opened and so treated have given ample proof. Plans of and report on the above property aye now open for inspeotion at the office of ' T. W. BALFOUK, Sharebroket, opposite the Post Office, >apier, where application for Shares will be received.
