Many of your readers, both at Napier and Hastings, will learn with regret that Mr Gorman, of the Carlton Ho.tel, and Mrs H. O. Oaulton, of the Pacific Hotel, are both seriously ill. j Tha sucoees that haß attended "Fiaafore " will be a source of gratification to the six gentlemen who guaranteed the cost. As it waa resolved to put it on properly or not at all, the expense waa considerable, nearly double the estimate. There is some talk of going to Waipawa with it while still in good going order, but nothing is yet decided. Ihe amateura appear for the last time in Heatings to-night. The meeting called on Monday evening was only thinly attended, on aocount of '•Pinafore" However, those who wero there, including the Mayor, resolved that Tuesday, Ootober 22nd, should be a publio holiday in Hastings, in honor of the opening of tbe break _ ator In consequence of thia. there will be no Wednesday halfholiday noxt week. Unr enterprising townsman, Mr Newbigin, has resolved to obtain if possible a flow of water suoh as has not yet been obtained in Hastings, by going down to a lower strata khan yet attempted. Tho pipes are three-inch, and are down over 230 feet. Mr Gilberd is now goim? through tho second ahinglo bed. Mr Leipst has sunk a two inch well for the poet offioe, obtaining a good flow after two days* driving. Ihe depth ia about 140 feet. i'_o post offioe is now approaching completion, and the business of it will no doubt be in full swing there in about three weeks. It is not at all likely that tho Native Land Court will re-visit ua this year. There was a large attendance at the funeral of William Graham, drowned while trying to save hia brother. The interment took place at Hastings, the Bey. A. 8. Morrison, Presbyterian minister, reading the funeral service.
