Telegrams raceived by the Government from tho Urewera country stato that tho recont koreros with tho natives have proved satisfactory, aud ihe survey in goiag on quietly. Tho Tuhoes wero reluctant about iho road going Iwyond Ahiberu, but tha opposition was apparently more of a protest than anything else, and as soon ns they saw it waa no usa thoy pnvo wiy. Honda will be Lid off between Gilatoa aud Whakatane, and Ten'haiti and _hikera. Tho natives of Kuutuhuna were very determined in their opposition at first, but Mr Carroll told them thit if thoro was any trouble the Permanent Forco would be stationed there, and the Government would let loose tho whole of tho unemployed on tho road between it and Waikaremoana. Not long after they withdrew their opposition. Mr Carroll is now on his way t> Gisborne ■via Wairoa.
