The New Zealand filly Day Dream II (by Albany—Siesta) ran third to Rainbow and Veruma in the Fitzwilliam Stakes, six furlongs, at the Doncaster meeting on September 11.
Mr W. Cooper, who used to race Trenton, Niagara, &c, in Australia, won the Hufford Abbey Plate, a mile and a-half handicap, at the Donoaster meeting on September 12, with Pose of Hampton, a three year-old filly by &oyal Hampton from Lady Primrose.
Particulars ace to hand by the mail of the St. Leger race There were eight starters, Ladas being favorite at 11 to 10 on, with Matchbox at 2 to 1 against, and Amiable at 10 to 1 against. The winner, Throstle, waa neglected at 50 to 1 offered. Ladae was in the lead approaching the winning post, but Throstle caught him, and beat him home by three-quarters of a length amidst a soene of excitement rarely neon on a racecourse. Throsttb's stable companion Matchbox finished third, two lengths behind Ltidas A miable was fourth, and Nona-the-Wisor fifth. The value of the stake was £4730. The winner was ridden by M. Cannon.
